Open source LoRaWAN telemetry test bench for smart grid - A DLMS/COSEM implementation case study

Internet of Energy (IoE) emphasizes the need for an intelligent and adaptable Grid system that is based on smart energy meters (SM) IoT communication technologies. However, many countries are still unable to meet their SM rollout plans due obstacles such as lack human financial resources, absence interoperable globally standardized protocols in sector. Therefore, developing open-source platform can be implemented top existing legacy infrastructure, while having capability transmitting metering data over a proven, easily adaptable, already established long-range wireless communications technology, could accelerate anticipated migration Smart Grids. The aim this work realization open-source, low-cost telemetry capable integrate DLMS / COSEM compliant LoRaWAN; global standard application protocol metering, control, management which getting widely accepted Europe US. In proposed architecture, electricity (consumption or generation) further forwarded blockchain network, through LoRaWaN server, certified consumed by Distributed Applications (DApp). This way, producers consumers will able exchange (sell buy) (especially from distributed renewable sources) using technology enhance integrity, transparency, security, leading thus peer-to-peer trading democratization market.
